JOB SUMMARY |
The Director of Arts and Special Events serves as the artist expert for the school Leadership Team, School Board, staff and students of Mesa Arts Academy and provides logistical planning for the Art department, along with field trips and special events. Responsibilities include managing all tasks and details for the selection and organization of the annual art calendar. The Director of Arts and Special Events works closely with different teams and branches across BGCAZ to ensure the overall success of the Arts program. |
JOB RESPONSBILITIES |
- Prepares and updates art schedules

- Encourages BGCAZ “Rules of Engagement” and incorporates into day-to-day interactions with staff
| |
- Maintains and oversees the inventory of costumes, props, technical equipment, visual art and music supplies
| |
- Prepares and submits monthly Arts Department articles to be displayed in the Mesa Arts Academy newsletter
| |
- Represents both staff and students in student IEP meetings
| |
- Facilitates and schedules all field trips and special events including but not limited to: guest speakers, assemblies, pep rallies, special workshops, etc
| |
- Oversees and manages budgeting and purchasing for the Arts department
| |
- Coordinates and administers Arts staff awards
| |
- Provides logistical and technical support for all school wide assemblies
| |
- Assists with art related press releases and mailings
| |
- Interviews, trains, assigns duties and supervises all part time Arts staff
| |
- Teaches Art classes as needed
| |
- Partners with leadership on preparing and updating the art staff handbook and program lesson plans
| |
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE, LICENSURE and CERTIFICATION |
- Bachelor’s degree in Art, or Completion of sufficient hours of college/university level course work or previuos job experience to be an expert in specific program area
- Must obtain/maintain a current CPR, First Aid and Food Handler’s Certification (within first 90 days of employment)
- Must have and maintain a valid Arizona Driver’s License

KNOWLEDGE, ABILITY and SKILLS |
- Demonstrated flexibility and the ability to adapt to and support change across Mesa Arts Academy and BGCAZ
- Knowledge and coordination of high-quality art projects and programs
- Working knowledge of federal and state laws and company policies and procedures
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite including Outlook, Word and Excel
- Ability to articulate for giving, serve as an ambassador, engage in relationship building and promote philanthropy
- Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing and basic arithmetic skills

WORKING CONDITIONS and DRIVING |
- Some travel required between BGCAZ Branches, schools and community sites
- Work is performed at Mesa Arts Academy
